PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) for Face and Scalp

Platelet-rich plasma uses a concentrate prepared from your own blood. It is placed in the skin or scalp to support healing and skin quality. Because the process includes a blood draw and preparation, the visit is longer than most injectables, and the results are gradual.

How it works

A small blood sample is spun in a centrifuge to concentrate platelets in plasma. That plasma is then injected or applied with microneedling to the target area. Platelets release growth factors that may support tissue repair. Study results are mixed in strength depending on use, and outcomes vary by person.

Who it may suit

  • Early hair thinning as part of a wider plan
  • Skin texture and fine crepey lines
  • Mild acne scarring combined with microneedling, in some people
  • People wanting a treatment using their own blood product

The treatment day

  1. Review and preparation. The doctor checks your history, medicines and any blood disorders.
  2. Blood draw. A small amount of blood is taken from the arm.
  3. Processing. The sample is spun to separate the plasma, which takes some minutes.
  4. Application. The plasma is injected or applied with microneedling after numbing.

Aftercare

  • Avoid touching or washing the area for the period advised
  • Skip aspirin or anti-inflammatory medicine only if the doctor says to
  • Use sunscreen on treated facial skin
  • Avoid saunas and heavy exercise for a day or so
  • Avoid makeup until cleared

Things to know first

  • Swelling, bruising, redness and tenderness are common for a few days
  • Infection, skin irregularities and rare allergic reactions can occur
  • Blood-clotting problems, certain blood diseases, active infection and some medicines may rule it out
  • Results are gradual and vary by person
  • It is not a replacement for medical evaluation of hair loss or scars

Planning PRP around a Seoul trip

Allow about an hour at the clinic, and avoid scheduling anything strenuous afterward. Facial treatment may leave redness or small marks for a few days, especially when combined with microneedling, so book it early rather than the day before a flight or a photo-heavy outing.

Sessions are usually several weeks apart, so a short visit gives you one at most. Ask whether one session is meaningful on its own, since many protocols assume repetition. If you hope to continue at home, bring detailed notes on the kit and method used.

If you take blood thinners or supplements, say so in advance. Blood-thinning products may affect bruising, and the doctor should decide what, if anything, to pause.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) for Face and Scalp: common questions

Is it safe because it uses my own blood?

Using your own blood lowers allergy risk, but infection, bruising and other side effects are still possible.

Can I fly after PRP?

Often yes once swelling is mild, but ask the doctor about your skin and the injection area.

How many sessions are needed?

Often three or four, though the number differs by purpose and person.

Will the scalp look obvious after?

There may be redness or small bumps for a day or two, which hair can often cover.
