CO2 Fractional Laser
A CO2 fractional laser resurfaces skin in tiny columns; this page explains what that means for your trip schedule.
How it works
A CO2 fractional laser is an ablative device that emits 10,600 nm light, absorbed strongly by water in skin. In fractional mode, it vaporizes thousands of microscopic columns of tissue and leaves the skin between them intact, which speeds healing compared with full-surface resurfacing. The skin then repairs the treated columns, a process linked to texture and scar remodeling. The same technology, in a focused mode, can remove small raised lesions.
Good to know
- Because the surface is opened, expect redness, crusting, and peeling that last about a week for typical settings.
- Numbing cream or local anesthesia is used, and the doctor decides based on depth.
- Strict sun avoidance and gentle care protect healing skin and lower the chance of pigment changes.
- Results build over weeks and multiple sessions may be advised.
What a CO2 Fractional Laser session means for your travel days
This is one of the stronger recovery commitments you can make during a trip. Ideally it happens near the start of a long stay, not within a week of departure.
A crusted face is not a good fit for crowded flights, palace visits, or beach days. If your trip is short, a gentler option or postponing for a longer visit may be a more realistic choice.
CO2 Fractional Laser: common questions
How long do I look obviously treated?
Many people have visible redness and flaking for around a week. Pinkness can last longer.
Can I fly with healing skin?
Dry cabin air can be uncomfortable. Ask the doctor and keep a generous gap before departure.
Is it suitable for darker skin?
There is a higher risk of pigment changes. A doctor should evaluate your skin and settings.
